Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the oldest clinically documented system of health care still in practice today.
For many thousands of years Traditional Chinese practitioners have used Acupuncture to ensure the free flow of the body's energy in order to bring the body into balance. In this way, disease has been avoided and good health maintained.
How does it work?
Acupuncture works with the body via a system of Qi (pronounced Chee). The Qi or energy needs to flow freely in order for the body to maintain health. The needles are used in specific locations for each individuals needs.
Why should I use Acupuncture?
Acupuncture can be used to treat Musculo-Skeletal conditions in conjunction with Massage to achieve profound and fast results. Acupuncture is also an effective preventative medicine as it corrects imbalances in the body before they lead to disease. Acupuncture can also be used to treat many different diseases and disorders, and is especially effective with gynecological, arthritic and emotional issues which western medicine may fail to support effectively.
What happens in an Acupuncture Treatment?
The initial consultation includes questioning on many things including your medical history, current medications and current symptoms.
Traditional pulse & tongue diagnosis is used to give the practitioner a good indication of what is happening in your body.
The treatment can usually last anywhere between 45-60 minutes.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has developed many different methods of treatment, your practitioner will choose the best forms relevant to your diagnosis.
Acupuncture
Needling - the inserting of fine needles into acupoints on your body.
Heat Therapy - using heat to stimulate and warm points and channels to promote circulation and nourish the body.
Electroacupuncture – Where electrical stimulus is attached to acupuncture needles to provide strong stimulation and remove blockage.
Auricular Therapy – Every organ and region of the body is represented by an acupuncture point in the ear. The use of fine intradermal needles, magnets or seeds on specific ear acupuncture points. The needles are covered in a tape and can be worn after your treatment for up to 3 days.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
The use of a herbal formula may be recommended as part of the treatment.
Manual Therapies
Cupping (Guan Fa) - the use of glass suction cups placed on certain regions of the body.
Spooning (Gua Sha) – involves cutaneous stimulation where the skin is pressured, in strokes, by a round-edged instrument (often a glass spoon)
Chinese Massage (Tui Na)
